MAY
Verdure, Colleen’s new blog is up and going this month. Please
join her at
www.colleenmiko.wordpress.com for musings on plants, design, books and
all things garden related. Expect her to include her passions: insects, funky
crafts, vintage home décor and green living.
One of Colleen’s garden designs appears in the June/July issue of Organic
Gardening Magazine with a 2 page photo spread for the feature Design
Like A Pro. In the article, called “Child’s Play”, Colleen is interviewed
regarding a children’s garden she designed in West Seattle and is listed as a
contributor for the issue. Up until now, her work had only appeared in regional
magazines and this feature is the first recognition of her work in a national
magazine. The magazine is available on the newsstand starting in May.
JUNE
The summer 2010 issue of WestSound Home & Garden Magazine
www.wshomeandgarden.com
will be on the newsstand at the end of May and will feature 2 articles written
by Colleen. “Plane Sailing: Curtis Erpelding, Custom Furniture Maker”
features the talented Port Orchard craftsman who specializes in custom, studio
furniture and is one of the longest standing members of the NW Gallery of
Woodworking, an artists cooperative in downtown Seattle. www.curtiserpelding.com
The second of the two articles: “Know Thy Enemy: Outsmarting your Garden
Nemesis” provides information on the best ways to tackle weeds.
Appearing beginning sometime in June, Colleen’s online article “Hip
Houseplants” will appear on KPLU’s website for their feature Think
Local/Grow Local. The article will discuss easy care, great looking
houseplants and the latest trends in displaying them.
AUGUST
Saturday, August 21st, Colleen and her husband Eric’s Port Orchard garden will
be one of the stops on the South Kitsap Garden Tour, proceeds of
which support the Kitsap Historical Society. The tour, called: “South Kitsap:
Beautiful Gardens, Good Eats and Historical Notes” starts at 9:30 am and will
stop at 4 gardens before ending at approximately 3:30 pm. Catered by Ambrosia
Catering, three of the gardens will feature breakfast, lunch or dessert. A
delicious boxed lunch will be served at the Miko’s garden while Colleen
discusses the local history. She will also lead a garden tour to reveal the
evolution of the property in the 16 years she and Eric have been stewards. For
tickets and more information contact the Kitsap Historical Society Museum (360)
479-6226.
